Dorothy Gesler, 73, of New Auburn, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
She was born December 28, 1943, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Christ and Bertha (Gapanowicz) Nissen. Dorothy married John J. Gesler Jr. on July 22, 1960, in Kenosha, WI. They had five children and relocated to Bloomer in 1977.
Dorothy worked part-time at Big Stone Canning Factory in Bloomer and later at AJ Manufacturing. She was a longtime member and advocate of Alcoholics Anonymous and celebrated 40 years of sobriety on November 4, 2017.
She enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Also in her spare time she enjoyed fishing and casino runs to Turtle Lake. Dorothy was very grateful for the 17 years of quality life she was able to live from receiving a donor kidney in October of 2000.
Dorothy is survived by her five children, John (Lisa) Gesler of New Auburn, Mylene (Dave) Smutney of Bloomer, Michael (Nancy) Gesler of Chetek, Richard Gesler of Almena, and Daniel Gesler of Hillsdale; 12 grandchildren, Paul (Laura), Chris (Brandi), Cory (Angie), Shaylynn, Julie, John, Ericka, Jesse, Janessa, Lanah, Jordan and Logan; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer with Deacon Richard Kostner officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-7 p.m. and again from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday all at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at St. Paul’s North Catholic Cemetery, Bloomer.
