Traditional Funeral, Cremation, Memorial, or Celebration of Life Services
A funeral represents an opportunity for family and friends to reflect and celebrate the life of a loved one. There is no single proper funeral service. It is a time for human sharing in its deepest sense. You and the ones you love are at the very center of the process, and the choices you make will determine its significance for you. As you participate in the planning of the funeral service, you help create a meaningful experience for your loved one, your family, and everyone involved.
Complete Funeral Service
Traditionally, the funeral will be a Complete Funeral Service. This includes a family or public viewing of the deceased. Many times the viewing (or visitation) takes place the day before the funeral service at our funeral home. Following the viewing, there will be a service, typically in the church or at the funeral home. This would be followed by the earth or above ground burial of the casketed remains.
Choosing a Casket or Vault for Burial
Our caskets range in cost from $1095 to $4000 depending on the casket's material and various features associated with it.
Most cemeteries require an outer burial container in which the casket must be placed. Outer burial containers range is price from about $1195 on up. Neither funeral homes nor the government has anything to do with this requirement as cemeteries legally have a right to regulate their own policies. See our FAQs for more details about casket and vault options.
The Graveside Service in a traditional sense, typically follows the funeral service/mass at the funeral home or church. The casketed remains (or cremated remains) would then be transferred to the cemetery where a graveside ceremony takes place followed by the burial. In some cases, graveside services are selected when there is a small showing of people expected to attend the service of the deceased. Again, the graveside service can be traditional (involving the burial of a casket/vault) or non-traditional (involving perhaps the burial of an urn/urn vault).
Complete Cremation Service
The Complete Cremation Service is another type of selected offering. This service is similar to a Complete Funeral Service except cremation will follow instead of the casketed burial. This can be accommodated by the use of a cremation casket (casket that is designed to be cremated) or our solid oak rental casket may be used.
Following the viewing, service or ceremony, and eventual cremation, the cremated remains can be buried, properly scattered, or returned to the family for safe keeping. Urns are used to hold the cremated remains. We have several urns to select from.
Immediate Cremation & Memorial Service
The Immediate Cremation Service can be arranged, but is most times followed by a memorial service at the church, funeral home or other location. A Memorial Service is one where the body is not present.
We recommend that if you select an immediate cremation that you are allowed a time, if possible, to privately view the body as a family. Viewing of the deceased is a very important step in acknowledging that the death has occurred. Having some type of service or ceremony is also important for the grieving and healing process. The service offers a way for family and friends to formally honor the life of the deceased and helps them take those first steps forward.
On Site Funeral/Memorial Luncheons
It is a fact that many people that require funeral or cremation services do not belong to a church or place of worship. We offer ONSITE funeral lunches after services in the funeral home. We work with selected local restaurants/caterers in the Bloomer area to cater food into our funeral home for the luncheon.
Our funeral home also features a full kitchen that is available for our families to use. The kitchen also serves as a great space to take a break from the visitation going on in the chapel area.
Funeral and Cremation Pre-Planning Services
No one likes to think about death. In fact, many people in our families are reluctant to even speak of it. Funeral arrangements will be a consideration for all of us, and there are benefits in to planning a funeral in advance. In fact, millions of people choose to pre-arrange their funeral every year. When pre-arranging a funeral, no payment is required. This is a free service we offer at Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Pre-Funding Funeral / Cremation Services
Since we all come from different financial situations, pre-planning and pre-funding your own funeral can be beneficial. By pre-funding a funeral/cremation service, you are earmarking funds to be used specifically for your funeral/cremation services through the use of an irrevocable funeral/burial trust or burial insurance policy. This ensures these monies are protected by Wisconsin State Statute 445.125.
For people that choose to pre-fund their service with burial insurance, Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services will guarantee our service price and merchandise selected at today's price. Funerals generally increase in price on average from 3-5% annually. So pre-funding is a very wise idea if that is an option. We realize pre-planning and pre-funding funeral services can be very confusing and even difficult to understand. We are here to help you through this, so call us today to get started.
Please note that Thompson Funeral Home is proud to use Funeral Directors Life Insurance Company to secure your pre-funded monies. We DO NOT use any funding source associated with the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association.
No matter what type of service you choose, we encourage families to create a personalized service. By offering personalized services and memorialization features, a unique life can be remembered and honored in a way that is comforting to family and friends.
One of the most popular forms of memorialization is memorial video production. Schriver-Thompson is the only funeral home in Bloomer featuring a 70” High Definition, surround sound memorial video experience in our funeral chapel. Although not every family selects this optional service, we have seen it grow in popularity. We also have all of the tables, easels, and accessories necessary to aide you in setting up personalized memorabilia in the funeral chapel.
