Jerome J. Steinmetz, 87, of Chippewa Falls, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at home.

He was born April 12, 1931, in Chippewa Falls, the son of Charles and Lena (Eder) Steinmetz. Jerome graduated from McDonnell High School in 1950. In 1951 he entered the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Delta during the Korean Conflict until the time of his honorable discharge in 1954.

On June 5, 1956, Jerome married Mavis J. Rediger at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eau Claire. They raised 10 children together during their 61 years of marriage.

Jerome worked in auto/tire industry for most of his working career and also tended bar for several years at the Pines Ballroom. He also drove school bus for Bloomer Schools and served as a volunteer fire fighter for Bloomer Volunteer Fire Department. Jerome was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Bloomer VFW & American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Bloomer zoning committee.

Jerome was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church where he served as a lector, and on the building & grounds committee for the parish. In his retirement days he enjoyed assisting with dealer trade services for Toycen Motors.

Jerome is survived by four daughters, Diane, Beverly, Joyce (Jonathan) Solem, Maria (Christopher) Raddatz; six sons, Mark (Ruth Ann), Bryon, Dale (Gina), Allen (Sheri), Bradley (Jennifer), Michael (Brandi); two brothers, Steve of Eau Claire and Vernon of Bloomer; one sister, Monica (Robert) Penzenstadler of Casa Grande, AZ; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mavis in 2017.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with Fr. Victor Feltes celebrating the Mass. Military honors rendered by the Bloomer VFW & American Legion will be held immediately after mass at church. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to mass Friday at the church. A public recitation of the rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and a Christian Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be held in July at Chapel of Hope Mausoleum in Chippewa Falls.

Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home & Chippewa Valley Cremation Services in Bloomer is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Catholic Church.


4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 14 at Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer and from 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 15 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer.

All of the years that he stayed at my house in Florida have created a mountain of memories I will treasure all of my life. I will miss him dearly.
