Verva J. Swanson

Verva “V.J.” Swanson, 74, of rural Sand Creek, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Chippewa Valley in Bloomer.
She was born on April 23, 1944, in Fergus Falls, MN, the daughter of Virgil and Lillian (Matejka) Goyette. She graduated from South St. Paul High School with the class of 1962.
Verva married David Bauer on July 15, 1967. Together they had two children a son, Peter and a daughter, Wendy. They later divorced. She married the love of her life, Allen R. Swanson on December 31, 1993, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek. She spent her happiest years of her life in union with Al until her death.
Verva enjoyed cross-stitch, reading, and jigsaw puzzles as well as tending to her flower beds at home. She also was an outdoor and animal enthusiast. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer and lived her life attempting to walk in the footsteps of our Lord. In her younger years she was very adept at horseback riding and always enjoyed the company of her cats and dogs.
Verva is survived by her husband, Allen of Sand Creek; son, Peter Bauer of Green Bay; daughter, Wendy of Wisconsin; Grandson, Trenton Bauer of Green Bay; four granddaughters, Hannah Bauer, Josie Bauer, Corina Bauer, Katie Pippen; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer. Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home & Chippewa Valley Cremation Services in Bloomer. A time of sharing memories will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Paul's North Catholic Cemetery Bloomer.Thompson Funeral Home & Chippewa Valley Cremation Services in Bloomer is serving the family.
1-4 p.m. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home & Chippewa Valley Cremation Services in Bloomer.
1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer.
All flowers should be delivered to the funeral home by 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28.
