Vern L. White

Vern L. White, 88, of Rice Lake, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2019, with his wife at his side at Dove Healthcare in Rice Lake.
Vern was born July 16, 1930, in rural Cumberland, WI, the son of Orval and Ella (Wille) White. He attended Edgewood School in Town of Bear Lake prior helping his father on the farm. Vern later moved to South St. Paul, MN, where he worked in the farming industry.
Vern married Ellen Hamlet on October 24, 1959, in Shell Lake, WI. They had two children, Renee and Jeffrey. The couple moved to Unity, WI, where Vern worked for Jerome Foods for several years until taking on a new career at Land-O-Lakes in Spencer, WI. During this time served as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Unity. He retired from Land-O-Lakes in 1992. Vern and Ellen moved back to Rice Lake in 1994 where they have remined since.
Vern enjoyed volunteering and delivering Meals-on-Wheels for over 20 years. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club in Rice Lake for many years as well as member of Rice Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church. The couple traveled many summers to Alaska to visit and care for their grandsons. Vern’s hobbies included mowing the lawn, socializing around town with anyone that wanted to talk.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ellen; daughter, Renee Fischer, and son, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) White, both of Juneau, AK; daughter, Beth (Edward) Miller of Rochester, MN; son, Dale (Quin) White of Texas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Thompson of Cumberland and Dorothy Eby of Hudson, WI; a brother, Bobbie (Ardys) White of Cumberland; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Carl.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Rice Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church, with Pastor John Redlich officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday at church. Burial will be held at 4 p.m. at East Cumberland – Section 10 Cemetery in rural Cumberland, WI.Thompson Funeral Home & Chippewa Valley Cremation Services in Bloomer is serving the family.

Karen Heram My deepest sympathy to the family. I have known Vern for many years through the Golden K Club and helping with maps when he helped driving people to appointments etc. He was a kind man. Always had a smile.
