Thomas R. Fransway, 81, of Bloomer, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at Dove Healthcare in Bloomer.

He was born July 30, 1938, in Chippewa Falls, WI, the son of Raphael and Justina (Augustine) Fransway.

Tom attended Chippewa Falls High School and entered the U.S. Army at age 15 during high school and served during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge.  Upon his return he married Joan Mueller. Together, they had three sons.  They later divorced. Years later in 1982, he and Mary Kubisiak moved to South Texas, married, and had one daughter together. They later divorced.  Tom moved back to northwest Wisconsin full time in 2007 where he has resided in Bloomer ever since.

Tom’s true passion was horses. He trained racehorses in parts of the United States and Canada. He helped to establish horse clubs in the area, clowned rodeos, and bought and sold horses.  His friends knew him as a jack-of-all-trades having occupations that ranged from butcher to heavy machinery operator.   He was known to “pedal” his finds from all over the country and Mexico and was always up for attending local auctions.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family, which he was still doing until last year. He also raced cars at different stages in his life, entering in his last race at the age of 62.  He was also very well-known for his ability to start up a conversation with anyone and tell stories… many of them! Tom was very passionate and proud of the VFW Posts he served in both Bloomer and Chippewa Falls.  He will certainly be missed by all.

He is survived by his daughter, Samantha (Conrad) Willi of New Auburn, WI; three sons, Tom Fransway II of Eau Claire, Tim (Penny) Fransway of Elk Mound, WI, and Troy Fransway of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren, Brooklyn, Calvin & Sawyer Marie Willi, Jessica Fransway, Tim Fransway Jr., Sara (Josh) Shadick, Samantha and Trizdin Fransway, and numerous great grandchildren; two sisters, Barb Greening of Arizona and Dianne Comerford of Chippewa Falls; one brother, Dan (Barb) Fransway of Boyd, WI, and sister-in-law, Arlene Frye; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Fransway; and many friends. I am sure there was a reuniting celebration had by all!

A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, January 5, 2020, from 3-6 p.m. at the VFW Clubhouse in Bloomer.  A final salute and prayer will be done at 4 p.m. with a buffet luncheon to follow.  We would love for you to join us and share your memories and stories of Tom!  In lieu of flowers, monetary donations are welcome as the family would like to purchase a paver in his name at the Bloomer Veterans Memorial Park. Tom’s cremated remains will be interred at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI, in the spring of 2020.

Thompson Funeral Home & Chippewa Valley Cremation Services in Bloomer is serving the family.
